WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology: late

Weather conditions:

Spring was late and the cold weather prevailed very long, until the end of May. Following rapid warming resulted in intensive snow melt and ice-break on rivers. Ice broke on 28.05 on the Voikar River and on 27-30.05 on the Ob' River, later than average. Snow completely melted on 8-10.06. Greening of birch was delayed until mid June, as fall of temperatures and frequent dribble occurred in the first half of the month. Water table was low in the Ob' River floodplain, and snow was not washed away by flood from some of the grassland ridges.

Season temperature:
Season humidity: rainy
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers: 28.05
Date of final loss of snow: 8-10.06

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

average

Breeding conditions:

Numbers of most species of birds decreased, but remained stable in Herring Gull (Larus heuglini), Common Snipe, Whimbrel and Arctic Tern. Numbers of Common Gull, Terek Sandpiper and Short-eared Owls increase insignificantly, in the latter species due to increasing abundance of rodents.

Rodent dynamics:

Numbers of voles increased notably compared with 2003, but did not reach high level.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Arvicola terrestrisrare
Microtus sp.rare
Clethrionomys sp.common

Summary of fauna studies:

Bird counts on the plot were carried out, along with descriptions of nests, spatial distribution and behaviour.
